We love a dramatic Before + After and the transformation of this kitchen in Rockland blew us away. The dark kitchen was original to the home and did not provide the open concept layout that the homeowners wanted. After contacting IKAN at the recommendation of their builder, the homeowners enlisted the assistance of Alexis Solomon, Principal Designer at MINT Design and kitchen designer with IKAN, who took them through a full kitchen redesign which included widening the doorway, replacing the flooring and selecting paint colours. Alexis' design eliminated the dysfunctional L-shaped layout and eating nook of the old kitchen, instead creating a large island to house the sink and a panelled-front dishwasher along with seating.
For cabinetry Alexis recommended a mix of white IKEA APPLAD doors and custom rift teak doors made by semihandmade. Paired with white quartz countertops installed by Stone Trends, modern chrome fixtures and a black mosaic floor to ceiling wall tiles, the look is clean and contemporary, exactly what the homeowners imagined.
Alexis' design guidance with paint, flooring and tiles also translated to a major facelift for the fireplace. The homeowners later had the custom cabinets and mantle installed.
